The War of the Shires is a small war game written in Pascal with the Lazarus RAD. It is open source and the sources are available below along with binary versions of the game for Linux and Windows. The Windows version comes wrapped in an installer.
The inspiration for this game comes from a series of articles written by Alan Davis in the now defunct magazine ZX Computing Monthly. They were published between November 1986 and January 1987. Originally written in ZX Basic and a touch of machine code, I have drastically altered the games design and am using Pascal. There is not much left of the original game.
Current State - Version 0.1.0
- The GUI is in a suitable state.
- The graphics are in a very primitive state!
- Movement is available and the player can manoeuvre around the playing area.
- Load and Save game routines have been implemented.
- There is no documentation at the moment. This will come in time, but the program is just playable without it.
- The Linux version source code is a little different to account for slight differences in screen display.
